Day 1

After a long flight we finally got to the Rider Hotel in Seeta Uganda! We got to sleep in (until 9am) which was good considering we got in late and then ddin't get to bed until 3am. Today our host Jen met us at the hotel and took us into Kampala to exchange some money. The exchange rate today was 25.35 shillings for a dollar which left lindsay and I with a boatload of shillings to keep up with. After that we went to the Pearl Restaurant for lunch where we got our first true Ugandan meal of the trip and I remembered that Matooke was NOT my thing. Lindsay enjoyed the yellow mush much more than I but we were all incredibly excited to get on our way. After lunch we headed to the United Methodist East African Conference Center where we met with Bishop Wandabula and his team. Bishop Wandabula is the head of the United Methodist church in Brundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan and Uganda. He is a very very busy man so we were happy he made the time to meet with us about our time we would spend at the Humble School. Even though a few in our group struggled to stay awake, we learned a lot about Uganda and all of the great projects the members of the Methodist church are doing around the region. Tomorrow is our first day at Humble School and we are both exhausted and excited!

We have finally arrived :-)

After 17 LOOOOOOONG hours on the Airplane and a bumpy ride in the Humble school van we have finally made it!

Only 2 more days!!!

Wow in just 52.5 hours we will be departing Atlanta on our way to our mission trip to Uganda!!! Luckily I still have today & tomorrow to pick up some last minute things & of course pack, which I have not yet even started yet! It will all come together, I am not too stressed yet, at least I have more time then Judi as she will be flying into Atlanta later tonight to visit her family before our trip.

In the past few weeks & especially in the last few days I have been preparing myself emotionally & spititually for my first mission trip. Judi & I have already overcome various challenges for this trip such as financial & time constraints & even the objection of some family members (haha my dad) & we've met all those challenges with success. I cannot put into words how excited I am to help the children of the HUMBLE school in whatever capacity I am able...whether its building a girl's dormitory, providing assistance to the school's nurse or just lending a listening ear or making a child's day by means of a smile I am willing to do whatever God believes in me to do for these children & their school. Now I admit I do not know the Bible from front to back & I know I am not as devout in religion as most of the other members in our group; my biggest fear is that I do not measure up in that category but I have a very open mind & I am hoping that this experience will help me carry the teaching's of God into my everyday life back in the states.

Thank you ALL for your continuous support, we truly appreciate all your financial donations & prayers, without all your help this trip would not even be possible! You all have made one of my dreams come true & I am so happy to share this first-time experience with you all! Judi is bringing her laptop & we should have wi-fi at our hotel so we will be updating the blog & facebook as much as we can! Please keep our group in your thoughts & prayers over the next few weeks, below is a protection prayer that I found & like:

Protect my Journey
In the name of God I go on this journey.
May God the Father be with me,
God the Son protect me, and
God the Holy Ghost be by my side.
Whoever is stronger than these three persons
May approach my body and my life; yet
Who so is not stronger than these three
Would much better let me be!
